Footnote (FULL)

There is no source providing the current prevalence of abuse during childhood. The Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) provides the best available indicator of prevalence of adults who experienced abuse before the age of 16 years.

This is therefore an underestimate of child abuse as abuse against 16 and 17 year olds is not included. Abuse perpetrated by children aged under 16 years is only recorded for sexual abuse.

Questions asked in a module to 18-74 year olds in 2018-2019.
